Program Overview

Delivered by the same instructors who teach our own MBA students, the program offers a thorough overview of the fields that gathered Gustavson Business international attention and awards. We have adapted the format of our regular MBA courses to present you with a rigorous, innovative term of study combined with local government and company visits. The program is equivalent to three graduate level courses.

Course Descriptions

We offers 3 key areas of specialization:

  • Global Strategy
Develop an understanding of doing business in a global environment. We provide tools to help make sense of the complexities inherent in operating on an international scale. Topics include:
    – Evaluating the attractiveness of different markets
    – Considering the best way to enter these markets
    – Differences in culture and the impact on consumer behavior and human resources management
    – Adaptations that are required in planning for different markets
We tie this analysis together with a strategic understanding of the forces shaping business success in the             context of globalizing markets.
  • imagesCross-Cultural Management
Understand the complexity and dynamics of doing business across national borders. This course is a challenge because of cultural differences that affect business and management practices. Therefore as the result, successful cross-national management requires a good understanding of cultural differences. Effective global or cross-national managers should have a global mind-set, perspectives and attitudes. Moreover, they should be trained with important cross-cultural management skills which this course is designed for:
    – Cultural awareness and sensitivity
    – Cross-cultural communication and interaction
    – Managing diversity
    – Cross-cultural negotiation
    – Cross-cultural adaptation
  • Social Entrepreneurship
This module will begin with two days of classroom based work covering basic concepts relevant to social entrepreneurship. Case studies will be used to ground these concepts in practice and engage students in participatory learning processes. Following an on-campus introduction to social entrepreneurship, students will make field visits to a variety of social enterprises in the Victoria/Vancouver area. Students will be provided with a set of questions/issues to explore throughout the site visits. At the end of the course, the students will be given a team-based project that requires students to apply what they’ve learned through the analysis of a social enterprise case.

  1. Ike ARINZE says:

Very nice I can say, but can an international student enroll for this? And what help can you offer to such person in getting visa.

    • Clarence says:

      Hi Ike,

This is a short-term program (4 weeks) and it doesn’t need a study permit. But, I need to know which country are you from to determine whether you need TRV (Temporary Residence Visa) or not.

      Thank you.
