Canada Day is the national statutory holiday par excellence. This day celebrates the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the Constitution Act. This year, the holiday is postponed to Monday, July 2.
Why is this date important?
On July 1, 1867, begins the territorial history of Canada. On this date, the colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick were united in the federal domain of Canada, through the confederation.
On this same date, the colony of Canada was divided into the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
How did this holiday evolve?
In 1958, the first celebrations were organized with concerts, fireworks displays, and parades of Canadian troops and squadrons. Back then it was known as Dominion Day.
Thanks to these celebrations, this event became a more familiar and informal festival.
In the last years of the 60’s decade, it became the celebration of televised events in Ottawa.
In the 1980s, the government of Canada encouraged the celebration of this event by subsidizing the local activities that make up the country.

1958 Canadian Broadcasting Corporation inaugurated the transnational television broadcast with Governor General Vincent Massey’s speech “Dominion Day” from Parliament Hill.

1980 Establishment of the national anthem “O Canadá”
2003 the first Barrie fireworks were held in Ontario.
2011 The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the Canada Day festival in Ottawa.
How is Canada Day celebrated in Vancouver?
Canada Day is a holiday that includes different events in the city. From cultivation in the city’s convention center to food trucks, concerts, and fireworks.
Since 2009, on this day, the popular parade of Canada is also celebrated. The parade that crosses the streets of the city and ends in Burrard Street to merge with the fireworks show in Coal Harbor.
The port had to cancel the celebration of this traditional event for budget reasons.
“As the overall costs continue to rise for such a large event, we focus our resources on the core elements of Canada Day at Canada Place to ensure we can continue to produce the best possible event for all attendees.” says the Port.
In addition, this year has also been canceled by the massive Fiesta de la Calle Davie, a very popular and characteristic event in the city.
Both events (Canada Day Parade + Davie Street Party), have been canceled for the same reason, a budget deficit caused by an increase of costs caused by the previous year events, which coincided with the celebration of the 150th birthday of Glen.
Despite these cancellations, the city continues to celebrate the aforementioned events (with Food trucks, concerts, fireworks …)

Location: Coal Harbor in Downtown Vancouver and also in Ambleside and Dundarave in West Vancouver.
The best places to see fireworks are on different points of the boardwalk, in Crab Park and at the Vancouver Convention Center in Canada.
